    VQ30DE and VQ35DE head (/headgasket) compatibility.

So, can anyone (Fred?) state any facts about the differences in the heads of the two engines. I am aware the vq35 heads flow better, but do they also bolt on or do they need machining in order to function properly?

Additionally, can we use the VQ35DE headgaskets with a VQ30DE engine? It seems pretty hard to find some decent gaskets for the VQ30 but there are plenty of good choices for the 35DE.

    Well hello,

They will bolt up but it will reduce your compression on the VQ30 base good for Turbo or Supercharged set up but not for NA.

If you shave them 40 thou it works out but you need to adjust the timing cover to compensate for the oiling hole and head bolting positions.

Yes you can use 3.5 gaskets.

    hope this helps

    Drew
