Since I work for a race engine facility I thought I'd throw in my 2 cents.

Knife edge and balanced crank, oil dispersion coating.
Darton 100mm sleeves (stock bore is 95mm, fyi).
Carillo, Eagle, or Crower rods, oil dispersion coating
CP piston (or your choice, whomever), 13:1-17:1 compression, depending on the "class" rules or choice of fuel
O-ring the deck, 1/2" head studs
ACL coated bearings, mains and rods
4-5 stage dry sump (forget the Nismo N1 wetsump)
ported VQ head, oversized valves (VH valves?) or oversized aftermarket (Ferrea)
    Aftermarket valvesprings and retainers
Very large, aftermarket cams (perhaps custom), keep the VTC on the intake side at least
    Jenvey ITB's
Motec, Autronic, Pectel or Life ECU (AEM=almost engine management, forgetaboutit)

There's so much more you could do, it all really depends on budget. You could have a custom piston and rod made, raise the wristpin height and lengthen the rod for a better rod/stroke ratio and higher RPM ceiling. Or use the VQ40 crank, more torque at the sacrifice of higher rpm. With so many variations of the the VQ (VQ20-VQ40), there are countless crank/rods/bore combinations.

Have you (or your company) done any of that work to a VQ yet or are you just listing things you'd do?

I'm just curious what kind of results you guys got.  Seems like a pretty hard core build!
