    Quikyx,

Welcome to the site and thanks for joining the community!  We  have free photo hosting for members so if you want to keep an album for your project just shoot me a PM and I'll set you up.  I'm glad to see someone using the 3.0L, they're tough little motors and dirty dirt cheap too, hang on to that turbo you've got, you may want it in the future:)

     thanks

    Fred

Thank you for the fast reply fred its nice to have a person who is willing to help share his information. What all does it take to run a megasquirt system on one of these? Or can i chip my ecu like my ka24?

All I ask in return is you share your info too!

It's pretty simple to run the MegaSquirt, check out this link for all you could ever want to know about it:

    www.megasquirt.info

I'm glad to answer any question you have about it too.

If your running the 3.0 though and don't really need a standalone I'd suggest just using the 3.0L computer, easy enough to wire up and will be faster to get on the road because you won't have to do any tuning.

    Re: Newb To the VQS

Thanks Fred, I will be sharing all of my info as it done. I just orderd my 6spd like i said I need to pickup my engine and ecu but if i can get away with a megasquirt system and a single turbo set up on a vq30de i would love it. Whats your thoughts on the NA de compared to a turbocharged one. I dont know if you saw my earlier question on is there any way to modify the stock ecu? Id really like to do a full build no cutting the corners on this thats why i was looking into a ms2 system. I dont plan on driving this car till next spring now. Any input and suggestions are greatly admired.

    Thanks
    Andy

    Re: Newb To the VQS

Do you mean the VQ30DE verses the JDM VQ30DET?  I'm not all that familier with the VQ30DET but it's probably not worth the money honestly, the VQ30DE can take a lot of power and is so cheap you can replace them for less than the cost of an average T3/T4 turbocharger.

I'm not aware of any way to tune the factory computer yourself, JWT can do it though, pretty expensive I think and their service is awful from what I read.

If you want more flexibility then go standalone, especially if you are going to turbocharge the motor.  A nice MegaSquirt II system complete will cost less than a stock ECU, wiring harness and piggyback ECU to control the larger-than-stock injectors  you'll be wanting to run.

It comes down to a personal choice in the end but for a turbocharged VQ I'd go MSII since I've got a lot of the details already worked out for you.

    Fred,
Yeah i just bought a megasquirt preassembled from a guy. says its v3 but its not its set up for coil packs on a vr6 vw but yeah. Do you have any idea where i can find a driveshaft yoke for my 6spd so ican get that made. Also do you have the cad drawsings for the bearing spacer and mounts so i can find someone to make them for me. unless i can buy them from you or someone

    All set!

If you want to start a "blog", just make a post in the Nissan forum and update it as you go along, if we get a few going for different people's projects I'll make them all stickies so they don't get lost.

    Re: Newb To the VQS

I'd buy the oil pan new from your local Nissan dealership, they're real cheap new and almost non existent used.  For the yoke you'll probably have to buy a complete drive shaft from a  Z or a G35 and cut the yoke off.  Try here www.car-part.com, maybe you can find some salvage yard that has a damaged shaft and will sell it cheap.

    Re: Newb To the VQS

I'm on car-part.com all day, literally.  There's a little trick most people don't know about on that site:

If you want a drive shaft (for example) and you know it will work for your project from any 350Z from 03-07 (but technically they won't because Nissan changed some little fastener or design detail which technically makes it a different part number) then do a search for a 1975  Nissan 350z driveshaft.

Obviously Nissan didn't make a 350Z in 1975 so the car-part.com software will bring up a new window asking you to specify a year range.  Then tell it to search for 2003 - 2007 (if you know all those years will work for the specific part you want).  It will then bring up all driveshafts for a Nissan 350z from 2003-2007 regardless of part number difference and interchange issues.

I do this all the time when I want a part that I know will work for my car even though the interchange software says it won't.  For example, in 05 there are 3 different 350z engines. One for the 35th anniversary cars and two for the non 35th cars.  But, I'd use either of them for a swap project so I do a search like above to see them all at once and find the lowest price.
