    VQ35'ed S13 Coupe

As per Freds request I've decided to create a thread that will hopefully chronologically organize the buildup of my S13 from this point forward.  First let me say that without Fred's help I would have had a lot more trouble getting this thing running.  We were both kinda working away at our cars at the same time but I got stuck on the electrical issues related to the timing equipment.  The swap has actually been done for a year now but I'll admit it was was kinda cobbled for a while.  Since then I've been taking many steps to insure that it is no longer cobbled and in fact beast.

Let me explain that this car is in no way a daily driver.  I'm building the car to perform; no comprimises.  Eventually I will make it look nice with nice bodywork and paint but that will come after it runs 11's and has F1 handling.

So let me start with a shot of the car as of a week ago.

Much more to come as I continue the buildup but for now read up on my website.

Wow, nice project... i didn't see, have you decided on what turbo(s) you are going to use?

Where're the links to the vids of the car back in its 'deer killing' days?...

    Right here.

    http://videos.streetfire.net/search/z33/0/f/29ABFC3E-CF29-44FD-884A-52483652AA6B.htm

I have a newly edited version of that vid with new clips but streetfire is being really stupid and won't allow me to upload it.

I have not yet decided on the turbo.  The only thing I'm fairly certain is that I want it to be a GT series BB.  I'm basically stuck between the various sizes of GT30's and GT35's.  Since I'm building more of a road racing machine I'd like to stick with the smaller GT30's but having a GT35 would be excellent for future upgrades motor wise.  I plan on building a hybrid VQ32 with slightly raised compression and fully built internals.

I've been having troubles getting pics loaded up of recent things I've done so thats why theres the lack of updates as I orginally intended.  Recently I got the Fuel system all worked out with an Aeromotive A-1000 pump and AFPR.  Then I welded -8 and -6 steel fittings onto the fuel rails.  There are no longer any clamps in the entire fuel system.

    Re: VQ30 Powered S13 Coupe(Work in Progress)

Particular reason u're not gonna just upgrade to a 3.5L? The only things I could come up with is your use of the VQ30 ECU & flywheel, which are still usable, and possibly a slight savings (assuming u have the appropriate connections). Fill us in on some specs of the VQ32. Maybe I'm just miseducated?

(I hate making negative posts like this).

    Re: VQ30 Powered S13 Coupe(Work in Progress)

Don't worry.  I don't think you're being negative at all.  I'm not totally set on the 3.2 yet.  Basically its a combination of 3.0 and 3.5 equipment.  There are many variations.  The benefit of the smaller motor is that it can rev.  Having a motor that could rev to 9K would perfectly match the 6MT.  Without the revs the advantage of the gearing is difficult to take advantage of.  They all have various benifits.  I need to do some research to figure out the exact benifits of each.  The focus of my buildup has been to keep the car for SCCA SM class if I decide to go racing one day.  That class requires a sub 3.0L FI motors are 3.0+L NA motors.  Ideally I'd love to build a beast VQ32 that revs really quickly too 8.5K and makes a super wide TQ band.  More later my lunchbreak is over.

Anyway, finally got my recent endeavor of the fuel system on camera.

    Re: VQ30 Powered S13 Coupe(Work in Progress)

Thanks man.  I haven't really been doing too much to it over the past three weeks.  Just kinda cleaning it up some misc stuff.  Got a new ECU to get the tach working.  Been cleaning up the interior a bit.  I'd like to get it to the track this weekend but I don't know how likely that is.

Anyways, heres a newly edited version of a vid of the car.  Sorry for the shakyness on the daylight shots.  My buddy blows at filming.

Update shot.  Shes down for the winter.

    http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/767000-767999/767108_234_full.jpg

Lots of plans for the winter.  They include but do not exclude additions.

    -SPL Front Lower Control Arms.

    -ArizonaZCar Wilwood front BBK.

-Lots of steering rack work including the solid mounting of the rack as well as all new spherical tie-rod hardware.\

-Swapping the tired VQ30 for a VQ35 with a 30 timing chain system on it to allow me to continue to use the A32 ECU.

-Z33 IM system with 70mm throttle body from earlier Pathy TB adapted.

    -VQ30DE-K top feed injectors.

    -Clean up and interior.

-Chop the chassis off from the struts foward and tube it.

    -5 Lug conversion

I've already got some Peak Performance tension rods here and ready for installation when spring rolls around.

    Re: VQ30 Powered S13 Coupe(Work in Progress)

Happy holidays everyone.  I haven't been able to get too much time in on the 240 due to being extremely busy at work.  Good news though is that I now have a surplus of cash to begin doing the parts collecting.

First up is a set of Kirkey Intermediate Road Race seats.  The flexy fiberglass seat I had was a true POS.  These will be solid mounted to the chassis.  I got one first in order to verfiy the sizing.  Passenger seat is on the way.

More updates coming although there won't be many swap related updates for at least a month.

Latest update shot.  I've been doing tons of interior seam welding.  But now the front end is about to go under the knife.  Everything from the strut towers forward will be gone and replaced by tubular design.

Looking good Broaner, can't wait to see the tubular front end.  I always wondered how they locate the headlights and fenders and stuff accurately once you cut everything off, any idea?
