    Altima to Sentra

My brother's timing belt recently broke in his '96 sentra. We met someone who had a wrecked
altima of the same year with a good engine... is it possible to substitute the altima enginr in the sentra?

Possible, yes, but worth it?  Not likely.  You're better off replacing the timing belt on your friend's car if that's all that's wrong with it, as it would be a lot of work (custom motor mounts, re-wiring and so forth) just to swap in the KA24DE.  Too complicated if you're just looking for a little power (would be a measely upgrade in power, if any).

If you're interested in power, there's plenty of people who have swapped a VQ35DE into a Sentra, and many more that have had success with the SR20DET engine.  Just food for thought.

Neither of the engines that the 96 Sentra had in them had a timing belt.
GA16DE and SR20DE both had timing chain. If you are talking about the chain breaking then there is probably a lot more wrong with the engine if it snapped.

The B14 Sentras were not considered to be the best made cars of the time, honestly if you are going to put that much effort you should look into getting a better engine to swap or starting over with a  better car.
