Project B13-VQ Has Begun Part 2

Ok folks, here are a few pics now that the motor and tranny is in the compartment. This coming week we are going to be doing the brackets for the engine mount and the right side axle carrier. Up until now everything has been pretty much straight forward. The shifter with the cable assemby pretty much fell into place witht he exception of trimming the two front stud and making two new holes for the 2 bolts that go there. Keep in mind this car was an auto car so the bottom hole for the tranny shifter cable was perfect for the two shifter cables for the 6 speed. I will have to make to new holes for the cable protect that goes to the underfloor of the car, but that's not a big deal. Moving onto the axles, since I have the whole spindle assembly everything fell into place perfectly. As soon as the motor is in it's place with the motor mounts I will see how well the axles fitment is because right now I think the right side axle is little to snug and may need trimming, we'll see. This week as well I hope to be installing the clutch pedal along with the  hydraulic tranny lines and clutch cylinder.

Looking good Jorge, looks like it's gonna fit pretty good in there.  When you get a chance can you break down in a list what parts you are using exactly (I have a feeling this thread is gonna get some traffic and visitors will be wondering what parts your using along the way)?

I'm always on the lookout for a 2 door B13, I'd like to do this swap for a fun little daily rocket, like a CRX w/ a H22 but all Nissan FTW.

    Sure thing on the list, this is what I have so far;

    2004 Maxima Engine
    2003 Spec V tranny
    2003 Spec V Axles
2003 Spec V shifter with cable assembly, clutch master and slave cylinder assembly
2003 Spec V Spindle, hubs, rotors and calipers
2004 Maxima Bell housing (have to swap the Spec V for this one for it to work)
2002 Pathfinder 3.5 Throttlebody (not shown in the pics)

    P.S.

    Fred,
One thing that I am on the look out is for a manual steering B13 rack, think you have any available? TIA.

Wow, that's great that the Spec V spindles will work on the B13.  Why don't you just use a Maxima manual tranny, why are you using a Spec V tranny?

    thanks,

    Fred

Re: Project B13-VQ Has Begun Part 2

    The spindles are bolt-on. The problem with the tranny was that I wanted an VLSD tranny and not all maxima trannies have VLSD's and the ones that I found were to expensive over $800 without shipping. For the spec v tranny that I bought, I paid $1,000 for it, but it also included the following;
    Both axles
Both spindles, hubs, disc and calipers
    Shifter assembly with cables
The two clutch cylinders and the clutch pedal

So I couldn't argue with that price.

Re: Project B13-VQ Has Begun Part 2

Ok, so yesterday we started to work on the RH engine bracket as well as the LH engine bracket. What we did for the LH side was we took the bracket that goes to the tranny and filled up the two holes where the tranny mount would go since the location had to be moved and we drilled it where we needed it.

This tranny mount goes bolted on directly onto the shell of the car, so we drilled some holes for this.

Here is what it looks like with the mount in place, this is a dry run, the mount also has 2 other bolt holes that need to be done once the engine is out, since they go in from inside the engine bay to the LH driver side wheel well.

Now onto the RH side, this was used with a 2x1 steel flat bar. This is how it looks; I used the stock B13 engine mount with a solid NISMO insert.

Keep in mind, there still some work to be done on these, but overall this is close to how it's going to be.

Re: Project B13-VQ Has Begun Part 2

Today I went ahead and installed the clutch pedal along with the clutch cylinder. Since B13 never came with a hydraulic setup, I had to drill the holes in the firewall in order to install the clutch cylinder. Sorry I don't have pics of just the holes, but here it is installed.

As you can see the brake pedal is in the way right now, but I will soon be installing a manual tranny brake pedal, as that one moves the pedal more over to the right. How does the clutch pedal look, pretty straight?

    P.S.

Fred, I don't know if there is a limit as to storing photos on the forum, I usually like taking a good amount of pics. If there's any inconvenience just let me know ok. Take care folks.

    Jorge,

Keep 'em coming, I'm not sure what our space limitation is but we haven't hit it yet Smile [:)]  I'd see that as a sign of good growth!  (clutch pedal looks good BTW)

Before anything else, I would like to take the time to thank my good friend Fernando Vasquez. He is the owner of Xtreme Tuning here in Aguada, PR.

He's on the left side of the pic, I'm on the right. This man can do it all, he just finished up with a Del Sol turbo project, that thing made 477 whp at 15 psi and the dyno couldn't read any higher due to the tires breaking loose. He owns a 85 civic with a B16 turbo and that thing is sick!!! It's the orange civic in the next pic.

He doesn't have a website as of yet, but here is his contact info if interested. He specializes in Honda and Acura but he can pretty much get you anything when it comes to aftermarket performance. Thanks Nando!!!!

Another person which I am eternally greatful to have by my side when working is my father Jorge Sr. Thanks dad, I love you!!

Here are some pics of the RH engine bracket completely done. I was bored today so I decided to powder coat it red. How does it look?

I wanted to ask you after reading this, being a Sentra enthusiast you'd probably know, but did ALL Spec V 6-speeds come with LSD?  Or just a few?  I'm having the same problem looking for an LSD transmission from the Maxima.

And also, were the Spec V transmissions V-LSD (viscous) or HLSD (helical), as I know the Maxima variants were helical?

Re: Project B13-VQ Has Begun Part 2

All 02-06 Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V models came with a 6 speed HLSD (Helical, that's the reason why I specifically wanted this tranny) tranny.
