the last 2 weekends have been spent putting my VQ into my Silvia, here are a few pics of the progress,
bare engine getting ready on the stand

    sitting in the bay finally,

test fit of v mount set up,

sorting the rest of plumbing this week, and then wire it up over the weekend.

Hey man, long time no see!  I absolutely love your setup Smile [:)], very clean, a couple questions.

Do you have any pics of your manifold during the build up or of the RH side?

What type and brand of turbo are you running?

    later,

    Fred

    Re: vq30det s14 build

yea its sure been a while,

these are the only 2 pics, i started with a pair of standard rwd manifolds and adapted them to suit, the standard det manifolds go behind the engine so i couldnt sit the engine where i wanted it,The turbo is just a cheap t3/t4 as my plan is to go twin turbo eventually.

    Re: vq30det s14 build

its the factory manifold, my engines a VQ30DET from a Y33 cima so mabey your local dealer could source one?  factory the throttle body is on the lh side of the engine, but to make the piping shorter i changed it to the rh side

Do you live in Japan? I can't seem to find a DET anywhere around here! Also, how did you mount the engine? I'm dying for some more info here!

    Re: vq30det s14 build

I live in New Zealand, Work for a Nissan dismantler, and my boss goes to japan every month or so, and got me it on one of his trips buying stock.
As for mounting, that was the easiest part, i flattened the top of the factory x member bracket and the factory rwd VQ bracket was in the perfect spot, i used r33 gtr engine mounts, and it all bolted straight in.
using this combined with a auto bellhousing welded to a s14 sr20de 5 speed it all bolted up with shifter in the right spot, factory driveshaft and x member all lining up as they should.
I know the box wont last a great deal of time, but i have a few to play with for now at least.

    Re: vq30det s14 build

Awesome! That's what I wanted to know. You don't have any pics of it by chance? The DET does have the same tranny bolt pattern as the DE, so the 350Z six-speed with fit? How much would it cost to ship an engine to the US? I'm seriously considering this swap. You don't happen to know a guy on Sr20forum.com that goes by the screen name iamhappy46 do you? Owns an X-trail and a Autobacs car?

    Re: vq30det s14 build

yea the 350z box will fit no problem, but freight was my killer on that one, was going to be more than twice what the box would cost just to get it here, so at a geuss, it would be cheaper to get a 350z engine and put forged internals in?
no idea who that guy is sorry, as for pics what do you want to see? ill see what i can dig up.

    Re: vq30det s14 build

Wow very nice setup, I hope mine turns out as good as that. I best the boost response will be great with the short piping.

Wow thats pretty cool it'll bolt in with GTR mounts. Thats pretty usefull for guys that want to use the 350z engine/tranny

What Twins are you going to use? I plan on using 2 t25's or similar since Im doing a low buck buildup. GL on the project!

    Re: vq30det s14 build

Eh..Indifferent [:|]..Same thing as in the Z31's. Na or turbo, the turbos just have the turbo flange. Plus like he said theres no room for it any way.
