    VQ30DET into a 350z/g35

im currently considering getting a g35 or 350z and i was thinking about swapping out the vq35 for something that could handle boost better....i thought about possibilities like the rb or 2jz but from what ive read most times people match up the vq30det with the 350z mt so my question is would this be a relatively easy swap to consider? any advice would be much welcomed thanks

    Jared,
I think that would be a great idea, the VQ30DET is RWD as you know, it shares a very similar block to the RWD VQ35DE and I think it would bolt into a G or a Z using the stock G/Z mounts.  It would bolt up to the VQ RWD 6speed too so that would be easy.  Do you want to run it on the G/Z computer and harness?  If so you'd have to do a little thinking and planning on how to make that work but it could definitely be done.

    Re: VQ30DET into a 350z/g35

I think your best bet would be to use the the heads, intake manifold and front timing chain covers and assembly from the VQ35 and put it all on the VQ30DET block.  That way you could use your stock wiring harness and computer with no changes and you'd have the better flowing heads and intake manifold.  You'll want to do a little research on what compression ratio that results in though..

    Re: VQ30DET into a 350z/g35

There are plenty of bolt on turbo kits designed to work with the higher compression of the VQ35, and it's a great motor to boost. Swapping in a VQ30 is pretty pointless. You can make over 400whp with a stock block. I've seen 500 even.

I have a G35 auto sedan would it be this simple, the manual tranny swap for the g is so expensive and i think this would be a unique alternative and a little less money, but would the auto to manual wiring problems exists or since its a completely different motor would any problems happen. Because i would be using the VQ35 tranny

any help would be very nice thanks

Are you talking about the VQ30DET motor with a manual VQ35 tranny going in your G?

Or a VQ30DET going in your G using your stock auto tranny?

If you're talking about the second option then I really wouldn't recommend it for ya.  It would be a lot less hassle just to get a turbo kit for your G.  Plus, you'd have the extra .5 liter displacement and the peace of mind knowing you've got the original motor in there, untouched.

    Re: VQ30DET into a 350z/g35

No, the main thing I would want is the manual tranny thats what I was wondering if it would be easier and less expensive to put a VQ30DET in there, and bolt the VQ35 6-speed tranny to the VQ30, idk if the 6-speed difficulties would still exist. Which i think they would, so what would be the best way to make my G35 auto into a manual, motor swap or just the tranny swap which is very expensive. how hard would putting the VQ30DET with the VQ35 parts listed above that u said and then putting the 6speed VQ45 tranny in there, as opposed to just swapping the tranny

    Re: VQ30DET into a 350z/g35

Oh I see what you mean now.  No, I'd think it would be a much easier and more simple job to just convert your G over to 6speed since all the parts are available and are OEM parts, should be a relatively easy job for someone with some mechanical experience really.  I don't doubt it will be expensive but you should be able to get almost all the parts needed at a salvage yard from a 6spd Z.
