hello all, i'm a newb to this message board, stumbled it upon while doing some research on swapping one of these into my s14...so far this thread has been rather informative, thanks for putting it together fred...

...one question, i have a vq35 sitting in the shop from an '06 350z...it's a first gen HR motor, my question is, how was the wiring harness spliced for your, or anyone elses, particular swap and will i run into any issues with putting together/getting a hold of a harness for a vq that has both an intake and exhaust cam timing solenoid?

The front crank sensor isnt really that big of a problem. Mt solution was to simply make a bracket for it from some 5mm sheet aluminum. The clearance is pretty tight so you are better off really measuring things and putting some tought in it.
I havent got the intakemanifold ready yet so i dont know if i have the sensor on the right place, but some adjustability is there and it shouldnt be a big problem to get it work.

One thing i noticed when using the rwd vq coolant pipes was that i needed to bend them a lil and make a new bracket for the alternator in order to fit the LH bank pipes onto an FWD VQ20DE (which is basically the same as your VQ30DE's).

first off your the man fred! ok. i bought a 2006 g35 motor tranny harness and ecu. i was looking at the mount kit at vqswap.com. in your opinion is it any good for me? can i do this swap without spending so much money on the mount kit? i dont know what to do for the drive-by-wire part. i heard you can use an aftermarket sr20 throttle body and run a cable. is this true?

I tought of contributing about the exhaust manifolds since i have been rubbing my head for quite a bit in order to make it work. My engine is mounted _very_ close to the firewall, and by turning the fwd max's manifold around (left to right and vice versa) i can make a dp fit on both sides without too much hassle. The manifold looks quite beefy so i think it will even flow moderately. The 350z ss manifolds were very hard to fit and even rubbed the firewall for a bit, so testfitting the oem fwd manifolds is a good thing to do before cutting up some shiny ss manifolds xD

You got to see my mod on 1995-1999 VQ30DE Maxima manifold. It's really sloppy and nasty looking but hopefully it will help me get the engine running, which is my number 1 priority. Later on I plan to redo the mod with a lot better finish and much less custom materials.
My goal in this swap is to use as much stock parts as possible with lowest possible cost on parts.

it clears the stock S13/S14 hood with little modifications.
