    How is this piece fabricated?

See those 4 "tubes" that the 4 engine mount bolts would go into?  How are they fabricated?  Do you weld in a washer on the bottom of each tube for the bolt to tighten against or what?

This is Dent Sports's 240sx hill climb car BTW, awesome project.

    Thanks,

    Fred

If I were building mounts like those, the 4 tubes would just be relatively thick wall tube, the grams you would save by going with thin wall stock and washers aren't worth the trouble and worry that your mount would buckle

Ahh, gotcha.  So maybe even round bar drilled down the center w/some longer bolts?

    thanks,

I think people tend to go overkill with mounts.  I know I did.  There is a fine line between supremely beast and overkill.  If we were making thousands of pounds of torque I'd be worried but...

I agree but my next mounts will be 100% USDA grade A beef.   I always wished I'd have made my S14 mounts tougher even though they probably didn't need to be.  It's just a peace of mind thing combined with the wow factor when people see them.

The other thing you should keep in mind,is what you have on hand, easily available if you should ... oops

Bill Washburn  is an excellent fabricator, his shop is full of nifty little "bits",but the tube in that engine mount looks a lot like the tube that is supporting his front end, turbo etc

I'll bet that's 1/8 wall 3/4 tubing, or something similar - i'm not sure of the size of the bolts, but  12 mm sounds right - making a 1/2 diameter hole just about perfect...

also, the steel sheet that makes up the web (gussets, whatever you wantto call them) adds tons of strength to the design - i wouldn't skip themin engine mounts

the other relatively easy option, is to make mount plates, and use a single piece of .083 or .120 wall larger diameter tube mitered the propper angle - it doesn't look nearly as cool, but much easier to fabricate
