    98 saturn sl2 8 cyl

    i have a 98 saturn sl2. does anyone know if there is a front wheel drive 8 cylider engine that would be possible to convert to, and if there is then how would i go about that?

    Sorry, I couldn't resist.

    Seriously though, a Northstar V8 would be the most logical place to start.  After that the challenge would be finding a manual transaxle.  I'm gonna have to venture that a 5 or 6 speed with Northstar bellhousing doesn't exist.

    The northstar v8 uses the gm 60 degree v6 bellhousing pattern. this has been done (well in to a fiero) quite a few times. if you want to search for info(n*- manual) Fiero.nl would be a good idea. i am pretty sure that  you have to get a custom flywheel made though. i could be wrong.

    Best V8 I can think of would be a ls4 from an Impala SS. The Impala is FWD, so you would just remove the sl2 engine/trans and replace them with the ls4 and trans from the Impala with the usual rigamaroll of any engine swap (mounting brackets, clearance... ).
